a turn-of-the-century mining town just 10 minutes north of Crested Butte in the ecologically majestic High Elk Corridor. At RMBL, science and art converge. You will see field stations for global warming, ecology and biological studies, and you may glimpse the scientists and researchers at work, or sitting beside you in the dining hall during your week. They always have a few good stories to share, and they love hearing yours.
Accommodations are rustic and many of the buildings are on the Colorado Historic Registry. Legend has it that Vladamir Nabokov stayed in the cabins once at RMBL. He loved to collect blue butterflies and fancied himself a lepidopterist. His friend and researcher at the lab invited him to Gothic where he allegedly
wrote a scene from Lolita.
*A note on altitude: Crested Butte and Gothic are at 9,000 feet. If you have breathing troubles or a heart condition, please consult a physician before you join us. (<back) (Read more...)
